WordPress Origin Story

I remember feeling cold. So very cold. The rain had put out my fire. My clothes, or what was left of them after the mornings encounter with the not so friendly neighborhood jaguar, were soaked. My stomach wasn’t very happy either. Must have been the termites I ate for lunch. They tasted like carrots. I remember wondering if anyone was out searching for me. I hadn’t told anyone about my true intention; they would have thought I was crazy. Maybe I was. I was lost in the jungle for three days now, and although the weather and my stomach were turning against me, I felt more determined than ever. I felt close. I had used every skill I had ever learned in my life to survive those three days. Was I afraid of death? Hardly. The thought never even occurred to me. I was too focused, too determined. The alchemist had told me that everything I went through in my life served only as practice for the final test. Was this it? Dusk was nearing. It would be getting dark soon. I would have to try finding shelter for the night. I decided to keep moving west. Or at least what I thought was west. The troop of white face capuchins I met a day earlier, while seemingly friendly, had made haste with my compass. I remember hoping it would help them find what they were looking for. As I made my way, focusing on the ground in front of me and trying my best to avoid stepping on the snakes which crossed my path (the rain seemed to have brought them out), I noticed a peculiar flower with an almost human-like face. Intrigued, I kneeled to take a closer look. To this day I have not been able to confirm the identity of that flower. It doesn’t exist in the records. As I stood up, I noticed a flickering orange glow in the distance. “Fire! Warmth!” I thought. Where did the light suddenly appear from? Was I only seeing it now because it was getting darker? Would it lead me back to civilization or to be rescued? I wasn’t ready to be rescued yet. I hadn’t found what I’d come for. But the thought of a warm, crackling fire was too alluring. I hurried towards the light. As I grew nearer, I saw it was emitting from a small cave a few hundred meters ahead. My heart began to race as I approached the opening. I don’t think I was prepared for what I was about to see. I had found it. WordPress, in all its glory. The feeling was surreal. I finally felt at peace, my heart was content and my soul was fulfilled. I remember taking a moment to soak it all in, the wonder, the beauty, the magnificence. I remember feeling like my journey was finally coming to an end. But then I realized, was my journey coming to an end, or was it just the beginning?
