I started out in 3D visualization about 30 years ago, but kept picking up new skills along the way – graphic design, photography and video editing.
Then one day, in a client meeting, someone asked who would build the websites for five or six ongoing projects. Another person in the room said “António handles all our visual communication, he’ll figure it out.” I had never built a website in my life. But there I was, teaching myself HTML, CSS, and Flash – yes, Flash, it was the 90s – and delivering five sites in a row.
That led me to Joomla (the only CMS that made any sense to me at the time, which is saying something), then PHP and JavaScript, then Drupal for larger projects. Eventually a friend asked why I wasn’t using WordPress. I told myself I’d try it for a couple of weeks and see.
That was over 10 years ago. I’ve used it on every project since.
