WordPress Origin Story

I started working in 3D Visualization about 30 years ago (ough!), but got into graphic design, photography, video editing and some other stuff because I felt like it would add a lot more value to my work.
One time, at a meeting with a client who had 5 or 6 projects going on, someone asked “who will build the websites for all of this?”, and someone else replied “well, António deals with all our visual communication, he will be the right guy for this”. I had never built a website so far and I didn’t had a clue on how to do it, but there I was, learning HTML, CSS and Flash (yep, it was the 90’s), doing my best to build 5 websites in a row.
From there it didn’t took me too long to get into Joomla, because at the time it was the only CMS that made sense to me. Not that it made any sense, but it was the only one I could understand and get some results. At the time I’ve also learned PHP and JavaScript. A few years later I ended up using Drupal for larger projects, and not long after that a friend of mine asked me “why don’t you use WordPress? we’re using it on all our websites”. That made me curious and I gave it a chance. I’ll use it for couple weeks and see how it goes. Well, I’m still using it today, 10 years laters, on every website I develop.
