WordPress Origin Story

I began self-hosting WordPress sites with v1.5 since 2006 (albeit in an on-and-off fashion since then).

At the time, I needed a way to publish my content quickly. Manual coding/re-coding all the features that I’ve used previously in PHP would have been repetitive and time-consuming. WordPress is easy to install, easy to customize/extend, and lets me to self-host which other platforms don’t.

I started contributing back to Core and Docs starting in 2016.

Milestones:

2016: Started contributing back to Core and Docs

2019-Dec ~ 2021-Feb: Migrated Codex content (Code Reference & Examples) to the Code Reference portal of DevHub (migrated 670 of the 1468 entries, representing 45.6%)

2022-Jul: Started migrating the second set of Codex content (non-Code Reference pages) to HelpHub/Devhub

2022-Sep: Started the rep role “More Info Curator (Code reference)”
