WordPress Origin Story

In 2001 I was dabbling in stock market trading and wanted to keep a public diary of my trades. I originally started with HTML but that was taking too long to update. So I found a script that built a static site. Then I found b2/cafelog, it changed my life.

Finally I could allow people to comment on my scribblings. They didn’t. But that was okay as I wasn’t keeping it for them.

Then Matt and Mike created WordPress and everything changed again. I installed 0.7 and never looked back. I’ve had sites with hundreds of thousands of hits per month. Anybody remember a little fad called High School Musical? My daughter’s blog was hammered. I’ve had many, many, oh so many, sites born and die in absolute obscurity. WordPress on every one of them.
