Bio

I’m a long-time web and WordPress developer, and digital marketer. I started learning web development when I was 10 years old.

It didn’t take me long at all to start developing WordPress sites when the project finally came on the scene. I ended up building sites for clients and provided them with marketing services because I noticed the need for it.

Presently, my focus has been on copywriting for WordPress, WooCommerce, and web technology as well as being a self-sponsored, active contributor to the WordPress project.

These days when I’m not WordPress-ing, you can typically find me trying to find an additional hobby (and wondering if that’s even needed), kickboxing, enjoying the rain, or (hopefully!) catching up on my long reading list.

WordPress Origin Story

I found WordPress’ predecessor, b2/cafelog, and I thought it was wonderful. But, I figured it would be a while before I could use it reliably. In the summer of 2003 after the project was forked earlier that year and it became WordPress, I took a look at some websites that used it to see what it was all about. I ended up hyperventilating because I thought it was mind-blowing; I was so excited to start using it.

Why was I so thrilled?

Although I’m particularly nostalgic about the old days of the internet with GeoCities sites, I had dreamed of being able to do so much more when developing websites. But, I didn’t have time to invest in creating projects like that. When WordPress came along, it was exactly what I was wishing for and it was easy enough to set up. For me, it felt like being fast-forwarded into the future of the internet.

Not only that, but it was inspiring to think that anyone could set up a WordPress site and share their voice with the world; it has been something I struggled with in the past, and it’s still an incredibly important freedom to me.

I have loved WordPress ever since. But, it wasn’t until its co-founder, Matt Mullenweg, was rumoured to have declined an acquisition offer for Automattic (and WordPress.com) in 2007 that I became fully invested in it with clients. I was worried about WordPress’ decline since, at the time, open source projects often fell to the wayside quite quickly. Since Mullenweg had voiced his long-term commitment with WordPress, it provided me with confidence to go all in on using WordPress.

Even though my work and life has evolved over the years, WordPress has been a constant for me that I cherish alongside the long-running TV show: The Simpsons. No matter how life changed, WordPress was always there, waiting for me to dig in and have fun developing and writing.

Although I had sporadically contributed a bit over the years, it has been a long-time dream of mine to be an active contributor to the project; I’m thrilled that I finally started in the summer of 2021.
