WordPress Origin Story

TTSWP started in 2023 as an internal tool at Mementor, a Norwegian digital marketing agency working with WordPress-based clients. The agency needed a way to help clients improve content accessibility and engagement without forcing them onto external audio platforms or rebuilding their sites.

The first version converted blog posts into audio for a single client who wanted to make their content available to readers with visual impairments. It worked, and within months, other clients asked for the same feature.

By 2025, it became clear that the tool had value beyond Mementor’s client base. We open-sourced the core plugin on WordPress.org and built a SaaS platform around it for users who needed premium AI voices, multilingual support, and advanced features.

Today, TTSWP is published and operated by Norse Digital Group LLC, a Wyoming-registered company that manages our SaaS products. The free WordPress plugin remains fully functional, distributed through the official WordPress.org plugin directory, and has been downloaded over 15,000 times since release.

We continue to develop TTSWP from Norway, with engineering work performed by the Mementor AS team under contract with Norse Digital Group LLC. The free version will always remain free.

Voices picker: client-side localStorage cache for the voices list (1h TTL, mirrors the server transient). Instant render on repeat picker loads; keys use the mementor_tts_voices_ prefix so the Refresh voices button still forces a live fetch.

My Content & Audio: verify audio meta URLs before showing Has audio. Local URLs whose file is missing now show Audio removed instead of a playable-looking row with a silent Play button (mirrors the frontend get_audio_url check); filesystem-fallback rows now get a working Play/Download URL derived from the found file.
