Bio

I was born in Sicily, in Catania, on the slopes of Mount Etna. I studied art: high school (1986) and the Academy of Fine Arts (1992). In my life, the theater, photography, curiosity, everything that goes uphill by falling and «hay barcos que buscan ser mirados para poder hundirse tranquilos». Medieval music, Spain, Argentina, Chile, Atahualpa Yupanqui, Pasodobles, flamenco, churros, caña, and tapas. The evening after sunset, counting the stars near the volcano in Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince. Photovoltaic energy. My parrots. My dog (Professor Canittu Bau of Walla Walla University). Pirandello. Verga. Franco Battiato. The light of a sunny afternoon. The winter that darkens the lava flow. The Magna Graecia of Syracuse. The ghosts of summer on the Tyrrhenian Sea, watching the sleeping crocodile from the highway before reaching Milazzo. The pebble beach and the little church of Capo. The Mala Botta forest and the Montalbano Elicona castle. Thousands of years of Palermo in the heart and Trapani of salt and artisanal sweets. Red wine to the west. The sulfurous scent of Vulcano as Hephaestus forges the armor of the gods near my home on Etna of orange blossoms and prickly pears, strong shrubs and fresh pistachios, of remote antiquities like the Chestnut Tree of a Hundred Horses and the Easter processions. Thousands of years of cassata and ricotta cannoli. The temples of Agrigento and the Punta Secca lighthouse. Ragusa and its churches. The elephant “u liotru.” Pasta alla norma and pasta with sardines. The austere countryside as the ancient bells of Lentini ring. The mysteries. Trecastagni overlooking Calabria. And the sea where the sun sets, brushing against the black Madonna of Tindari. The strawberry tree stands guard beside the evergreen laurel, while the ancient, centuries-old black mulberry tree is gone. Roses peek out whenever they please, sometimes even in the dead of winter, right next to the fragrant white jasmine. And eagles in the sky, while small mustelids play on the surrounding wall. Magpies battle over the flowering broom bushes. After all, tomorrow is another day.
Sono nato in Sicilia, a Catania, alle pendici del monte Etna. Ho seguito studi artistici: liceo artistico (1986) e accademia di belle arti (1992). Nella mia vita il teatro, la fotografia, la curiosità, tutto ciò che cadendo va in salita e «hay barcos que buscan ser mirados para poder hundirse tranquilos». Cassata millenaria e cannoli di ricotta. I templi di Agrigento e il faro di Punta Secca. Ragusa e le sue chiese. L’elefante “u liotru”. La pasta alla norma e la pasta con le sarde. La campagna austera mentre suonano le campane antiche di Lentini. I misteri. Trecastagni che guarda la Calabria. E il mare dove il sole va a morire sfiorando la madonna nera di Tindari. Il corbezzolo sta a guardare accanto all’alloro sempre verde mentre del vecchio gelso nero centenario non c’è più traccia. Le rose fanno capolino quando gli pare, a volte anche in pieno inverno lì accanto al gelsomino bianco odoroso. E le aquile in cielo mentre piccoli mustelidi giocano sul muro di cinta. La battaglia delle gazze sulle ginestre fiorite. Dopo tutto domani è un altro giorno.

WordPress Origin Story

I encountered WordPress many years ago. Long before WordPress, I encountered HTML: I loved it immediately. My computer with a green phosphor screen (it was a very old 286) and I delved into the secrets of HTML, working purely with imagination, writing each line by hand, imagining how the finished page would look. But when WordPress arrived with its simple yet effective design, a new world opened up, a world tailor-made for those who wanted to write—write anything—with a powerful yet free tool. Truly free. So, I’m here because I used that tool for many years, and now I want to repay that generosity by making what little I can available to the WordPress community. Yes, being part of this community is a great honor. I’ve been on WordPress.com since 2012.
Ho incontrato WordPress molti anni fa. Molto prima di WordPress ci fu l’incontro con HTML: mi piacque subito. Io e il mio computer con schermo a fosfori verdi (era un 286 vecchissimo) ci addentrammo tra i segreti dell’html lavorando di pura immaginazione scrivendo ogni riga a mano immaginando come doveva apparire la pagina alla fine. Ma quando arrivò WordPress con la sua linea spartana ed efficace, si aprì un mondo nuovo, un mondo ritagliato su misura per coloro che volevano scrivere, scrivere qualunque cosa con uno strumento potente ma gratuito. Veramente gratuito. Ecco, sono qui perché quello strumento l’ho usato per tanti anni e adesso voglio ricambiare quella gratuità mettendo a disposizione quel poco che posso per la comunità di WordPress. Sì, far parte di questa comunità è un grande onore. Su WordPress.com dal 2012.
