    Bio

    Marieke van de Rakt is the former CEO at Yoast. She founded Yoast Academy and led Yoast through a successful transaction in 2021. They sold to Newfold Digital. Nowadays, Marieke is working for Emilia Capital. Emilia invests in new startups.

    Marieke studied Sociology and Communication Sciences at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. She obtained her PhD in Social Sciences in January 2011. Since then, she worked as a researcher as well as a teacher at multiple universities. Since the beginning of Yoast, Marieke has been involved in the company and in WordPress.

    Marieke is married to Joost de Valk and they have four amazing children together and our partners in Emilia Capital

    WordPress Origin Story

    I first started working with WordPress when my husband build a website for me. At that point, I was working at universities, doing criminological research. As Yoast grew, I became more involved with WordPress. I really love open source. I think it is the best way to grow and to evolve. Scientific research and open source are in many ways very similar. My love for WordPress comes from my love for open source!
