Out of nowhere in my late 30s, the entrepreneurial bug bit me. I’d never considered owning a business, but after looking into low-capital startups, I decided to try blogging. I had some old-school HTML, CSS, and JavaScript knowledge from years prior, but this was my introduction to WordPress.
The problem was, I didn’t have a niche. I built a site, failed, built another, and failed again. It didn’t take long to realize I absolutely hated blogging. Looking for the next thing, I tried building a WooCommerce shop. That failed, too. But I wasn’t ready to give up.
Next, I launched an audiovisual contracting company. I built the company site on WordPress, but quickly learned I wasn’t cut out for the contracting world and eventually shut it down.
As I figured out my next move, it finally hit me. Across every single one of these failed ventures, the one thing I genuinely loved was working with WordPress. I loved tinkering with the platform, writing custom plugins, tweaking the design, and even diving into the hosting and backend infrastructure.
It finally clicked: why not build a business around the one thing I actually enjoyed doing this whole time? I shifted to building and managing websites for other businesses, and I finally found the right path.
