WordPress Origin Story

I started my career as a PHP developer, building custom websites and web applications. WordPress wasn’t originally part of my career plan. By accident, I got a small freelance project that involved making a few changes to a WordPress website—updating the header, footer, and homepage.

As I spent more time working with WordPress, I realized it was much more than just a CMS. Coming from a PHP background, I was fascinated by its flexibility, plugin architecture, hooks, and APIs. It allowed me to combine the freedom of custom development with the power of an open-source platform.

My journey into professional WordPress development really began when I joined WP Event Manager. What started with bug fixes and small enhancements gradually evolved into developing new features, integrations, add-ons, and maintaining functionality used by thousands of WordPress websites. Through WP Event Manager, I gained a deeper understanding of WordPress coding standards, plugin architecture, backward compatibility, and building products for a large user base.

Working on WP Event Manager also opened the door to many other areas of WordPress development. Over the years, I have worked on theme development and customization, WooCommerce customizations, Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), custom Elementor widgets, Visual Composer/WPBakery custom elements, third-party API integrations, and custom solutions tailored to different business needs.

Looking back, it’s amazing that a small freelance task led me to a career in WordPress. Today, I enjoy solving complex problems, building features that help users, and contributing to the open-source ecosystem that makes WordPress so special.
