I found WordPress the way most people my age did – needing a website, hating every other option, installing 2.8 on a cheap shared host, and teaching myself PHP by breaking my own site over and over. Sixteen years later, it’s still the tool I reach for first.

The work I’m proudest of has been the unglamorous kind. Multi-tenant architecture across 150+ regulated client sites.

Custom Gutenberg blocks before Gutenberg was stable. Page builders that had to survive accessibility audits and federal compliance reviews. The deep end of WordPress, where you stop fighting the platform and start working with what it actually is – a remarkably capable application framework that the rest of the world still mostly thinks of as a blog engine.

Along the way, I learned that the WordPress codex at 2 a.m. is its own kind of teacher. So is reading core. So is the moment you realize a problem you’ve been wrestling with for a week was solved in 2014 by someone whose name you’ll never know, in a Trac ticket buried five pages deep. Standing on that quiet, generous foundation is what makes this community different from anywhere else I’ve worked.

These days I co-found and build SampleHQ with my wife, Biljana – a vertical SaaS for packaging and physical goods companies, running on WordPress multisite. I also maintain the SampleHQ Request Form plugin, released free to the community as a small return on everything WordPress has given me.

If you’re a developer who’s ever rebuilt your local environment at 1 a.m. because you were sure the bug was on your end and not in core (it was on your end), you and I are the same kind of person.
