I started blogging on WordPress around version 2.0(.4), replacing earlier experiments of a blog built on simple HTML files. Those experiments progressed, adding dynamic templates (PHP) and eventually a database (which made it a content management system, right?), before finding WP.

In the 20+ years since, WordPress has powered every version of my infrequently updated—and occasionally offline—personal site. That site has evolved from pre-built themes, to fully custom themes and plugins, back to stripped-down default themes, and now finally to a custom block theme.

Professionally, I’ve been building WordPress websites for others for about 15 years, ranging from blogs to small businesses to universities. I’ve been an early advocate, as well as a cautiously early adopter, of the ever-changing WordPress ecosystem. I’m proud to say my first block-based website, built in 2019 not long after the release of the block editor, is _still_ helping Canadian farmers stay up to date (as of early 2026).

Throughout my career, I’ve also had the opportunity to work with other CMSs, including Drupal, Joomla, and Craft CMS. In my opinion, that cross-platform experience has significantly improved the quality of the websites my team and I build. Still, WordPress is where I feel most at home.
