Inside WordPress: plugin development, editorial workflows, Elementor, and the unglamorous side of things — server hardening, performance, making sites survive their own plugin lists. Outside WordPress: typography and print design, which is where I came from and never really left. Motion graphics and video editing. And a slightly compulsive love for automation — if I have to do something twice, I’ll spend three hours writing a script to do it for me. Somehow it’s always worth it.

I built my first WordPress sites in 2004–2005, back when themes as we know them didn’t exist yet and everyone’s blog looked like Kubrick. I came from print — years of graphic design, InDesign, catalogs, layouts — and WordPress was simply the least painful way to answer a client asking “can we put this online too?”

I never left. For a long time I just built sites: themes, clients, deadlines. Then at some point I got tired of pasting the same snippet into the fifth functions.php in a row, and started turning those fixes into proper plugins.

That’s still how it works. Something annoys me, I build a tool for it, and if it might help someone else it becomes a plugin. Twenty years in, WordPress still lets me do design work without giving up control over what happens underneath — which is the part I never wanted to hand over to anyone.
