How It All Started

It was 2010, and I had absolutely no idea what WordPress was. I used to be a PHP Developer.

A friend of mine had just launched a small online store, and I remember thinking, “How did he build that?” It looked professional, like something a developer would charge thousands for. When he told me it was WordPress, I honestly thought he was joking.

That night, I went down a rabbit hole. I installed WordPress on a local server, picked a theme, and spent the next six hours just clicking around — breaking things, fixing things, and breaking them again. By morning, I had something that almost looked like a website. It was terrible, but it was mine.

What really hooked me wasn’t the software itself, it was the community. I posted a beginner question on a WordPress forum, expecting to be ignored. Instead, three people replied within an hour with detailed answers, screenshots, and encouragement. That blew my mind. I had never seen a community so willing to help complete strangers.

Over the next few months, I went from tweaking themes to writing my first lines of PHP. I still remember the thrill of creating a simple shortcode that actually worked. It felt like a superpower. From there, I started building custom plugins first for myself, then for friends, and eventually for the wider community.

WordPress taught me more than web development. It taught me how to learn, how to solve problems, and how to give back. Every theme I broke, every white screen of death I survived, and every “aha” moment in between shaped the developer I am today.

Years later, I’m still here – still building, still learning, and still grateful for that late-night rabbit hole that changed everything.
