Bio

My name is Olaf Lederer and I’m building PHP powered web applications since 2002. My first blog was built with WordPress in 2006 and today most of my web development jobs are done by using WordPress. Beside building websites, I spend a lot of time on online marketing, blogging and other “geeky” internet stuff.

Interests

WordPress, building websites, online marketing, writing blogs

WordPress Origin Story

I remember me that a friend asked me in 2005 why I didn’t have a blog (of course using WordPress). He mentioned: “That would be a great update for your website about PHP web development”. It took some time to work on that idea and finally in 2006 I published my first article “Parse html with PHP, a preg_match_all tutorial” on my Web Development Blog. The funny thing is that it took ~6 month to get some visitors for this website. While my first website finalwebsites.com had already a ~400 visitors a day, it was sometimes very hard to continue blogging. It took also some time before I tweaked or developed my first own WordPress theme. During the first years I used free and premium themes and finally in 2009 I programmed a custom theme for my dutch website on finalwebsites.nl. That was also the time that I wrote several plugins for the standalone version of bbPress. Today 90% of my personal and customer’s websites are based on WordPress and I write a lot of custom code to tweak these WordPress websites to the next level.
