I discovered WordPress in 2015, when I started my own blog. I chose the self-hosted version from the beginning, and what kept me there was the freedom: I could change the site, experiment with themes and plugins, host it wherever I wanted, and slowly learn how everything worked.
I didn’t start as a developer. I began by customizing my own site, and over time I started writing small plugins to add a feature or improve something I didn’t like. Eventually I shared a few of them, I like the idea that something made for myself can be useful to someone else.

WordPress is still a kind of laboratory for me: a place to experiment and build things on my own terms, independent from the big platforms.
My interest in privacy, self-hosting and free software came later, WordPress was one of the things that led me there.
I’ve kept using it simply because I like it, and by now I know it well enough to tinker with it.
