Bio

I’m Elliot Sowersby. A WordPress Plugin Developer from Bridlington in Yorkshire, UK.

I started using WordPress in 2009, became a full-time developer in 2016, and founded RelyWP in 2019. Since then I have worked with hundreds of businesses to build, maintain and host their websites.

In more recent years my primary focus has been developing WordPress plugins, which have 145,000+ active installs combined.

WordPress Origin Story

I started using WordPress in late 2009 to run competitive gaming tournaments. Lacking funds for a custom site, I taught myself PHP to build my own tournament management system, which started my web development journey.

In 2016, I graduated from Hull University with a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science. I had started freelancing during my final year, which quickly transitioned into a full-time career building and maintaining WordPress sites for hundreds of global companies.

In 2019, I transitioned from a sole-trader to a limited company, launching RelyWP. By 2022, my focus began shifting toward WordPress plugin development following the success of projects like Coupon Affiliates.

Since 2025, plugin development has become my sole focus, and I have phased out new client services entirely. Moving forward, I aim to continue improving my existing plugins, providing high-quality support, and potentially creating new solutions in the future.
