WordPress Origin Story

My original account on wp.org (@dpk) dates back to April 2006, when I first started building websites with WordPress. I made some earlier experiments and even installed b2 when b2evolution and b2/cafelog were added to Fantastico for cPanel hosts in 2003. At that time, I used Movable Type and then Mambo, Joomla, and briefly Drupal as the publishing engines and development frameworks for work I was hired to do as a consultant and agency of one. Textpattern was my favourite for blogging and simple sites. WordPress replaced them all after 2008-10. Through Post Status, where I was the editor for many years, I got deeper into the business ecosystem and community that grew around WordPress. Since then, I’ve worked with WordPress agency and product teams as a solution architect and technical account manager.
