Interests

My interests lie in both community service and a deep connection with the great outdoors. I dedicate my time and expertise to causes I truly care about. As the Charlotte School Foundation Board Treasurer, I’m committed to supporting education and ensuring responsible financial management. Serving as a Charlotte Soil & Water Conservation District Board Supervisor reflects my passion for environmental preservation and sustainable practices. My 14 years with Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America) nurtured my love for outdoor activities like camping, hiking, kayaking, and canoeing, and instilled in me a desire to mentor and guide young people. Ultimately, I’m an advocate for both education and the environment, and I strive to make a positive impact in these vital areas.

WordPress Origin Story

In 2011, I embarked on a transformative journey with WordPress that would shape my career for years to come. Joining CeJay Associates, LLC, a well-established website design company, we faced a pivotal decision between WordPress and Joomla. Drawing from my prior experience with both platforms, I advocated for WordPress, recognizing its user-friendly nature and alignment with our clients’ needs.

This decision proved to be a turning point. WordPress’s intuitive interface and robust capabilities perfectly matched our customers’ requirements, leading us to adopt it as our primary platform. Over the next decade, I immersed myself in the WordPress ecosystem, crafting approximately 100 websites and honing my skills in both design and development.

As my expertise grew, I began to leverage my programming background, particularly in PHP, to venture into plugin development. This transition allowed me to create custom solutions for specific client needs, although my initial attempt at publishing a public plugin faced challenges due to the lengthy approval process and a subsequent purge.

Today, my focus lies in developing smaller, specialized plugins tailored for in-house use. These bespoke solutions, while not designed for public distribution, demonstrate the versatility and power of WordPress as a platform for custom web development. My journey with WordPress has not only showcased its evolution as a CMS but also highlighted its capacity to adapt to diverse client requirements and developer innovations.
