    Be POPIA Compliant caters specifically for the South African landscape, and assist website owners that wish to trade in South Africa to Be POPIA Compliant. However, it is related to the European GDPR, it has many additional functions and therefore a simple Cookie banner will not suffice.

    For the most part following the European GDPR is good practice, but in addition, you have to provide some extra links from your website in order to be POPIA Compliant. There is also the question of how admissible a tickbox is as proof in court since when updating a privacy policy will overwrite the actual original agreement.

    When you use the Be POPIA Compliant Free Plugin, you are able to follow the checklist and ensure everything is in place by ticking the tasks you completed. Once you fully completed all tasks, and you have your SSL certificate active, all the relevant links will be displayed in the footer of your website.

    With all the buzz of POPIA, it is very difficult to determine what is true and what is rumoured, unless you set apart the time to read up on the actual law, particularly the Protection of Personal Information Act, Act 4 of 2013. As if reading and understanding 80 pages of law lingo is not enough of a deterrent, you need to also consider several other Acts of South African Law.

    Since we have already dealt with this with previous clients whom we have built custom systems for, and already consulted with 6 lawers in order to cover our tracks, we decided to make this information available for the masses, being the micro-enterprise owners of South Africa, which mainly rely on WordPress due to its flexibility and ease of use, not to mention the cost-saving as apposed to custom development.
