    WordPress Origin Story

    I started with WordPress 2 something, but it was really on WordPress 3 when I get involved in as I needed good Slovak translation, which wasn’t available at that time. I found sort of some “.PO” file, with very formal and not finished translation, that I couldn’t use. So I told myself:
    “Okay If I need to complete this project I need something formal and much well-rounded.”
    I spend three months just translating that thing, but till I was happy with the result, WordPress 3.2 was out there.
    I care a lot about sharing things that can help others, so I released with the help of WordPress.org and their SVN repository first widely available Slovak translation with Slovak precompiled WordPress. From that time I was the curator of that i18n SVN Slovak repository and related translation like Rosetta and so on. I was releasing version to version. After some time GlotPress project was born. I loaded translation into that project and finally, translation become what always should be, community-driven effort. Later on, I joined effort with guys from techforum.sk, what was tech community with a subsection “Help with WordPress”, I tried to help users with PHP related issues there. I also met there wonderful guys like Juraj Bocinec and Peter Nemcok, the duo behind site wp.sk for news about WordPress and was the no-brainer not to join our efforts. We did our first Slovak WordCamp together on 17. March 2012 (on my birthday!:) in Žilina. Time did pass, and there were many WordPress events and we had a lot of fun either in Bratislava, Vienna or Paris.
    Now everyone can contribute, suggest a better translation, do their best. We did go a long way to this point, and I am proud that now we have a lot of new young people participating in such fantastic project which opens new ideas, jobs, and experiences for them and everyone else.
