Bio

I am Principal SEO at Yoast and agency owner at FireCask. I have over 15 years experience in every aspect of the SEO industry from in-house, freelancer, agency employee and agency owner. With a background in technical SEO, I have have been working in Search since its infancy.

Alex also has years of knowledge of WordPress, working with everyone’s favourite open source CMS since 2010. Over the years Alex has built everything from popular plugins to custom-made themes and frameworks, as well as being involved in complex WordPress and SEO projects globally.

WordPress Origin Story

It was 2010, and I had been doing SEO for a couple of years. Working for larger companies at the time, none of them had an open source CMS (or CMS at all) to work with. One day, WordPress was the logical answer to a CMS that I could understand as someone who had intermediate PHP and MySQL skills, but also played ball with third party productions such as themes and plugins. I also found it was best for SEO best practice albeit not the best out-of-the-box.

In 2013 I co-founded an agency specialising in SEO and WordPress design and development which has made hundreds of websites for range of clients from small businesses to large global corporations. Over the years I developed simple, but what would become more popular, plugins as well as helping site owners scale and increase their online visibility.
