Bio

I have been using and programming computers for over forty years (self-taught, and with no degrees, certificates, or “formal training”). I am what you could basically call an “old computer geek” and code-hacker. I still remember the “fond, old days” of eight-bit computing, long before “Internet” even became anything public.

In those days, I taught myself how to program in BASIC, Assembly language, and even some PASCAL. I also learned how to dissect and reverse-engineer many samples of code, and even came up with much of my own improvements to them. I have always been a “code-junkie”, and known for perseverance when it came to digging into some coded project or program.

I maintain a website that I set up on a Virtual Private Server (VPS), several years ago, as I wanted to further my experience in web-servers and the Linux server environment. I develop many of my own tools and security aids in which to lock-down websites from intrusions, bots, “script-kiddies”, etc. – as I learned a valuable lesson when my own websites were hacked several years ago.

Interests

Exploring new and innovative ways to “get the job done”, especially when it comes automating certain tasks, improving security, and generally other creative ways to express how something can be done.

I also enjoy photographing nature and scenery, and seeing how I can put these photos and other creative graphics to work in projects such as media, video presentations, and other animated and non-animated works. Constantly seeking new ways to use graphics manipulation software and libraries.

Also planning on writing some tutorials and self-help books, as well as some very good “how-to’s” on various subjects I have experience in.

WordPress Origin Story

Have been using WordPress since about version 2.5

I loved the idea of a completely customizable, yet easy to use and manage website rendering engine. This has also helped to encourage me to learn PHP, and pick up my “old” programming skills again.

I bring my extensive problem-solving skills and experience into the open-source world, as I have even developed a few of my own, novel concepts when it comes to creating a working project.

WordPress has given me an opportunity and a passion for exploring those talents even further. I also research and develop on a good-security model when it comes to coding and setting up websites.
