WPKitchen is a community-driven initiative that helps WordPress freelancers access affordable, home-cooked lunches through sponsorships from companies, agencies, and community supporters.

Founded in 2023, WPKitchen was created to address a simple but important challenge faced by many freelancers: access to affordable and nutritious meals during the workday. By connecting sponsors with freelancers, WPKitchen reduces lunch costs while encouraging productivity, well-being, and community participation.

Our mission is to make lunches more accessible to WordPress freelancers while promoting co-working culture and supporting independent chefs and home-based food businesses.

Today, WPKitchen is working toward an ambitious goal: delivering 1,000 subsidized homemade lunches daily to WordPress freelancers across Asia.

WordPress Origin Story

WPKitchen began with a simple question:

* How can we make a meaningful, practical contribution to the WordPress community?

WordPress has helped millions of people build careers, businesses, and connections across the world. Yet many freelancers still face everyday challenges that often go unnoticed.

In 2023, a government-supported co-working space opened in Faisalabad, Pakistan, bringing together more than 100 freelancers, many of them working with WordPress. While the workspace provided desks and internet access, lunch remained a challenge. Some freelancers brought food from home, others spent more than they wanted on nearby restaurants, and some skipped lunch altogether.

A small experiment followed: affordable home-cooked lunches delivered directly to freelancers at the co-working space. The response was immediate. Within months, dozens of lunches were being served every day, proving that even a simple meal could make a meaningful difference in someone’s workday.

As demand grew, a bigger question emerged:

*What if affordable lunches could be made available to WordPress freelancers beyond a single co-working space?

That idea became WPKitchen.

Today, WPKitchen operates as a subsidized lunch program designed specifically for the WordPress ecosystem. Through sponsorships from companies and community supporters, approved WordPress freelancers receive significant discounts on their meals while delivery partners handle logistics.

The model is simple:

– A WordPress freelancer applies for lunch support.
– Sponsors fund a portion of the meal cost.
– Contributors or Freelancers pay a reduced amount.
– Meals are delivered directly to where they work.

Beyond food, WPKitchen aims to strengthen the WordPress community by encouraging collaboration, supporting co-working culture, creating opportunities for independent chefs, and helping freelancers focus on what they do best.

Our vision is a future where no WordPress contributors and freelancer has to choose between saving money and having a proper lunch.
