WordPress Origin Story

Sharon DeCaro first fell in love with WordPress nearly a decade ago when she left her paralegal job to pursue her passion for graphic design, web development and digital marketing. She sharpened her skills at the University of San Diego, studying strategic online marketing, while developing designs for well-known hotels such as the Hotel Bel Air and Hotel Coronado. Sharon knew that it was important to learn how to develop websites, which would complement her design skills and enrolled in an HTML/CSS class. It was there, she was introduced to this amazing content management system. After gaining extensive knowledge about WordPress, Sharon also discovered that because WordPress is a widespread and popular framework on a global level, there’s a huge community to support you when you’re having trouble making things work the way you intended. She learned that whatever problem you may have, it’s highly likely that someone else has struggled with it already and posted it on a forum somewhere.

Sharon also loves that the WordPress community is a lively one, that you can could easily get involved if you want to mingle with like-minded folks who share your love of all things WordPress. She earned that firsthand when attended her first WordCamp in San Diego. It was there, she was bitten by the WordCamp bug and went on to attend WordCamp Orange County and WordCamp Los Angeles. Next stop, WordCamp Austin. When Sharon relocated from Encinitas, California to Austin, she joined the Austin WordPress Meet Up. She wanted to give back to this welcoming community and volunteered her graphic design skills to create the logo for WordCamp Austin 2017. Sharon highly recommends you get involved in your WordPress community because the people are amazing!
