WordPress Origin Story

I began my web development career in 2008 as a Flash ActionScript developer, but quickly ran into a roadblock—there just weren’t enough learning resources to grow.

In 2009, I discovered PHP. While working with it, I found myself repeatedly building the same features: dynamic content modules, user systems, file uploads, and so on. It became routine and uninspiring.

That changed when a friend asked me to build a WordPress theme. I was surprised to find that WordPress already handled many of the components I had been coding from scratch. It streamlined my work and opened up a much broader ecosystem.

Since then, I’ve focused on plugin development and built a career around WordPress. Although I haven’t contributed to the open-source community yet, it remains a personal goal. When I do, I’ll proudly call myself a contributor to the platform that shaped my journey.
