I’m a professor in College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University, have a history in print and online media, and have a small web consulting business.

WordPress Origin Story

In the fall of 2005 I was looking for a blogging platform that I could use in a teaching environment, and I began playing with WordPress — in part because of the easy install, in part because I could understand most of the code and the codex was openly available to shed light on anything I needed. By mid 2006 I knew enough about the workings of WordPress that I thought it might be the perfect CMS solution for the NPR station attached to the university. Turned out it was, and by the end of the following year I was doing more developing within the WordPress environment than out of it.
