WordPress Origin Story

In my work as a musician and researcher I use poetry everyday and in several languages, but until the summer of 2014 programming languages were not on that list.

I began teaching myself to code during my residency at Des Moines Metro Opera, mostly because the time for me to have a personal portfolio site was well overdue, and I had also just begun my switch to Linux.

I originally thought I should code everything myself from scratch, but as I learned more about PHP and MySQL I discovered that with WordPress doing things for myself didn’t have to mean I would be alone.

WordPress is just what the doctor ordered for this overly independent, highly creative introvert who desperately needed some left-brain components in his life—yes, it’s poetry, but it’s still code.
