My journey with WordPress began in 2007 while working in product marketing at 123Greetings.com. At the time, I was immersed in SEO and organic growth, and I wanted a platform where I could experiment, publish, and learn without limitations. After trying a few hosted blogging platforms, I moved to self-hosted WordPress in 2009.

That single decision changed the course of my career.

I launched BollywoodGossips.net, which grew to more than 15,000 daily visitors within two years. But beyond the traffic, WordPress became my classroom. I learned SEO, performance optimization, server administration, monetization, content strategy, and what it takes to build products and experiences that people keep coming back to. Every challenge—from optimizing a slow shared hosting server to migrating infrastructure and working with entertainment brands like Eros Entertainment—taught me something new.

As my career evolved, so did my relationship with WordPress. I moved from publishing content to building websites for clients, experimenting with themes and page builders, and developing a deeper appreciation for user experience, performance, and product thinking. During the pandemic, I rebuilt rahulbasu.in as a space to write about product management, technology, and continuous learning.

Today, I’m a Product Manager at WP Media (group.one), where I help build WordPress products used by hundreds of thousands of website owners around the world. My role brings together everything WordPress first taught me years ago: listening to users, solving meaningful problems, and collaborating with talented teams to build products that people can rely on.

I’m also an active member of the WordPress Kolkata community and enjoy giving back through community initiatives like WordPress Campus Connect. Looking back, WordPress started as a blogging platform, became my learning ground, and ultimately grew into the foundation of my professional journey. More than a tool, it’s been the constant thread connecting every chapter of my career.
