PayWhirl is a subscription-management platform founded in 2013. We help merchants launch and grow recurring revenue—subscriptions, memberships, payment plans, and “subscribe & save”—without the busywork. Our tools include embeddable checkout widgets, a secure customer portal, and flexible billing logic that plays nicely with modern e-commerce stacks. We believe great subscriptions should feel native to your site, be transparent for customers, and be easy for teams to manage. If you’re building on WordPress, we’re here to make recurring payments simple, reliable, and merchant-friendly.

WordPress Origin Story

We started PayWhirl because recurring billing shouldn’t require duct-taped spreadsheets, one-off invoices, or custom gateways. Early on (back in 2013), merchants kept asking for the same thing: “Can you make subscriptions that just fit into my site?” WordPress came up in nearly every conversation—publishers, product creators, nonprofits, and educators all wanted a way to add subscriptions without rebuilding their stack.

So we focused on three principles:

Embed, don’t rebuild. Let merchants drop in a widget or portal and keep using their favorite theme, editor, and plugins.

Own the experience. Give customers a clean, secure portal to manage payments, plans, and addresses—no support tickets required.

Be flexible. Support payment plans, memberships, boxes, and subscribe-and-save with clear billing, proration, trials, and dunning that actually works.

Over the years, that approach helped thousands of teams turn WordPress sites into subscription businesses. Today, our goal is the same as day one: give creators and merchants the power to launch recurring revenue in minutes, keep it running reliably, and grow with confidence—right inside WordPress. If you’re building a membership, subscription box, course, or service, we’d love to help you make it feel native, fast, and future-proof.
