Bio

Medical doctor, and research doctor (MBBS and PhD) also undertaken masters degree in healthcare informatics. Been messing about with u*nx, shell (sh, csh, bash, zsh, tcsh), PERL and latterly PHP since 1993, mostly customizing existing projects to my needs. Self taught ANSI C programmer (sued for writing artificial neural network programs for my PhD). Now work both in clinical informatics and general medical practice (family medicine). Interests in Clinical Safety Risk Management in Healthcare IT and Information Governance.

WordPress Origin Story

Started using wordpress as a content management and blogging platform to support my Masters Degree research project “Evaluation of the use of Web 2.0 technologies in a system for distribution of health and administrative alerts from Health Boards to locum General Practitioners” https://ianthompson.co.uk/msc/ have since been using it as a content management platform for various personal and other interest sites.
