Bio

Working with WordPress since 2006 and I love the openness & power. Together with my husband Werner Huysmans we have a ‘two-man-agency’, focused on custom development (themes, plugins, blocks), building on top of the power of WordPress to empower our clients.

I try to give back by helping as much as I can: facilitating knowledge sharing by (co-)organising the monthly WordPress Meetup Antwerp since 2014, WordCamp Antwerp 2016 & 2018 and recently also started to give talks at meetups and WordCamps.

Interests

Open web, open source, fine HTML & CSS: I love semantics, I still love the promise of the open web and I love beautifully crafted code. I love the power of WordPress as a framework and the myriad of possibilities it brings to so many different people and organisations.

Working with JS a lot (even blocks), but not as a specialist: my partner helps me out whenever my react won’t react no more ;).

WordPress Origin Story

Started hacking websites together in the late 90’s, I tried WordPress the first time around 2006. I immediately loved the flexibility, the power and all the knowledge openly flying around. We have been using WordPress for most of our projects and experiments since.

In the early years, I didn’t know anyone nearby working with WordPress: we live in Belgium, also referred to as ‘Drupal Country’ at that time. So we hesitantly went to a WordCamp in the Netherlands and it was awesome: fine people, discussions, talks, … and we kept going to every WCNL since.

At one WordCamp Zé Fontainhas referred to Belgium as a blind spot on the community map, and he kept pushing. So the Antwerp meetups and WordCamps are his fault, and that of the WordCamp Netherlands-team: we’re paying it forward and lovin’ it!
