Bio

My name is Kim Christiansen. In my career I’ve supported creatives and content creators enabling them to do the work they need to, unhindered by technological problems. In the past several years, I’ve focused my efforts exclusively on WordPress powered websites. WordPress powers over 30% of the world wide web and is the most popular tool for communicating ideas, conducting business and creating community.

I develop, optimize, secure and maintain WordPress websites. Knowing that your website is safe, secure, fast and reliable, frees you to focus your energy on running your site instead of worrying about it.

WordPress Origin Story

I originally got shoved into WordPress sometime in 2009 when my business partner decided to hire a marketing person, who decided to move our existing website (such as it was) to WordPress. Then it broke (who knows how, I wasn’t involved yet…) Once it broke it then became my problem…

I literally had no idea what WordPress was and had never heard of it… I was an HTML kind of guy. If I could read the code, I could make it work. Suddenly there was all of this PHP code and it looked like something was happening in the background that It was very frustrating. But I learned, I cussed a little and learned some more. Eventually the site was up and running.

Fast forward a few years and a friend of mine asks if I can help her out. A non-profit she was working with had some ‘adult’ links at the bottom of their website! Yikes, this was not good. So I agreed to help, again, having no idea what I was getting into. I got the site backed up and tried to clean the offending code, only to realize that they had infected the PHP at a level below where a simple clean up would fix it. Eventually I had to rebuild the site manually and I remembered a little plugin that I had used before called Wordfence. I installed the free version to keep the bad guys out and with some careful management of the settings over the next 12 months, I was able to go from 2000 unique attacks per day to less than a dozen per week. I still watch over the site to this day and it’s one of my earliest success stories as I shifted my professional focus completely to WordPress security and server management. And to be honest, I could not have done it without Wordfence, the folks there are pure gems to work with and it is my number one go to plugin.
