Bio

Geologist specialized in GIS and Cartography, with 15+ years of experience
turning geographic data into meaningful maps and visualizations. Since 2017,
I’ve combined that background with WordPress to build a unique niche:
publishing spatial data and interactive maps on the open web.

I work at the intersection of GIS · Data Visualization · WordPress · Open Data.
My stack: QGIS, Leaflet, Python, and WordPress.

Open Web, Open Data and Open Source advocate. Active member of the Spanish
WordPress community since 2017.

– Co-organizer of WordCamp Spain Online 2020
– Co-organizer of WordCamp Granada 2018 & 2019
– Co-organizer of Meetup WordPress Granada
– Speaker at WordCamps and seminars on WordPress and map data visualization
– Member of the es_ES Polyglots translation team
– Member of the Spanish WP Marketing team
– Contributor to WP documentation

Notable: my animated map was featured at Matt Mullenweg’s State of the Word 2022.

I write about GIS, maps and data visualization for WordPress developers and
cartographers at jesusyesares.com and wpcarto.com.
Currently building WPOpenData, a project mapping the WordPress community
with open data.

Interests

Music, hiking, to read, cinema and photography.

WordPress Origin Story

I started making websites with tables, then with HTML and CSS. I fell into
the clutches of Joomla for a while — but around 2012 I discovered WordPress
and felt like a shipwrecked person finally reaching shore.

What I didn’t expect was the community. As a geologist who had spent years
working with GIS and geographic data, I was used to technical tools and
solitary workflows. WordPress gave me both: powerful open-source tools and
a welcoming community of people genuinely glad to help each other.

Since then, I’ve been combining my two worlds: the precision of cartography
and spatial data with the openness of the WordPress ecosystem. I build maps,
visualizations and tools that make geographic data useful and beautiful on
the open web.
