Frank Calderon (@fgcalderon) – WordPress user profile

Bio

Full Stack Developer, WordPress developer, educator, and technology consultant with 15+ years of experience building for the web.

I specialize in WordPress development, custom themes, Gutenberg, and frontend engineering, working with international teams and organizations to build digital experiences for the web.

I’m also a co-founder of the WordPress Guatemala community and an active WordCamp organizer and speaker. Beyond development, I’m passionate about education, mentoring, and exploring how AI can enhance software development, productivity, and the way we build digital products.

My philosophy is simple: Learn. Build. Share.

WordPress Origin Story

My WordPress journey started around 2010 while working at Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala. I was involved in a project to migrate the university’s websites to a new content management system.

During that process, we explored different CMS platforms, including MODX, Joomla, and Drupal. Eventually, we chose WordPress. What started as a technical decision ended up shaping a significant part of my career.

My first connection with the WordPress community came when I attended a talk by Cristian Sánchez, who was starting the WordPress community in Guatemala. We connected after the event, and soon after, I started getting involved by giving talks and workshops and helping grow the local community.

Over the years, that involvement grew from attending and organizing local events to volunteering, speaking at WordCamps, mentoring others, and helping organize WordCamp Guatemala.

More than a decade later, WordPress is still an important part of my professional career and my connection with the tech community. What started with a university website migration became an opportunity to learn, build, share, and meet people from communities around the world.
