Striving to have a positive impact in the world by using computer technology. This, I do by using the current standards, but where that is not possible then I try proposing new ‘agreements’ on how we can do it. Some patents to this end are still pending in Kenya here – like the doing away with any dominant world currency.

WordPress Origin Story

As a programmer, more so in PHP, it is very difficult not to have heard about WordPress. But being a developer of sensitive systems like payment processing (what I started with), I had some reservations using frameworks and anything like them for fear that I will be losing some security controls. This fear is fast-fading away as I learned the hard way during plugin submission that security is taken very seriously here.

But when a friend (and customer) asked me to role out for him an eCommerce site – and fast, I knew I was in big trouble if I attempted to start it from scratch. A thorough web search was started to see how this can be done quickly. Most of my searches were leading to WooCommerce from different reviewers and these reviews seemed to have been good. But, as you might have guessed by now, WooCommerce itself is for WordPress!

The eShop was brought into existence very fast with the base being WordPress, the actual engine WooCommerce, and the Payment processor developed also fast for it later.

Thanks to the WordPress team for developing such an awesome engine; and also the team at WooCommerce.
