WordPress Origin Story

In late 2015, I left my home and rode my bicycle unsupported from Russia to Japan.

The trip was challenging and really opened my mind. After initially microblogging to Facebook and Flickr, I decided that I wanted to brand and own my unique content.

With prior knowledge in WordPress, I set up a stock twentysixteen theme and used this to enter and edit content.

When I returned home, I looked for a suitable WordPress theme replacement. It was very important to me that my unique stories could be enjoyed by anyone, especially armchair travellers who found it difficult to travel.

I decided to implement a child theme, customising the existing interface to support bold branding and a content-first focus.

Baby steps.. Since those early days my WordPress knowledge has grown in leaps and bounds.

I continue to travel by bike and http://dontbelievethehype.co.nz/ remains an ongoing effort, one of many enjoyable WordPress projects.
