WordPress Origin Story

I want to keep this short for now, so here is a “little story”, this will be update later. Just a short introduction for everyone.

I had an experience. Yet, no one who shared my experience took the initiative to organize. Given the devastating effects of this, I wanted to do something, and I realized that if it only takes a day to make a forum website, why don’t I just do it? Many years passed, but eventually I did now. This is my primary reason for getting started with wp, to create a forum website with wpForo, as it provides the easiest option. I created a forum website with values in support of free speech, allowed expression of opinions, to bring people together, and organize. It took me 3 days to learn the basics of setting up the wpForo forum website.

But I noticed something. wpForo didn’t have AI moderation. My forum could get flooded by “trolls”. Meanwhile, AI has been mainstream for quiet a while these days. Projects like OpenRouter exist. Since I had already done a few AI based projects, and it only took me a few days to create each of these, I guessed that wpForo wasn’t working on AI moderation. Well they started at the same time exactly, had I known I would have skipped my AI Moderation project to work on projects I find more interesting. Continuing, that is how I ended up creating the world’s premier “Anti-Troll” system.

How hard can it be to integrate AI since my previous AI projects only took a few days? I sat down to create the wpForo LLM Moderation plugin, to keep the trolls off my forum. The project should have taken 3 weeks, half of it could be done with preexisting plugins for charts/metrics, but soon I realized there was a lot of ground to cover as a new WordPress developer, and reading wpForo source code. The project went into its third month, atop my health problems, as I kept adding features, GUI, premium, updates, fixes to integrate with wpForo instead of hard DB manipulation, automated testing system that checks a 100 cases, etc.

That said, I am glad I started that project. I learned wp, and get to be part of the ecosystem. I am enjoying the development, and will likely opt for wp for smaller projects. The projects are worth the time.

I started at the right moment. As you know, a lot of the internet has hard telemetrics. From Microsoft Windows, Apple, Google Chrome browser. 99% of your internet data is ads and telemetrics. I actually measured mine. The vast majority of my internet was in ads and telemetrics. Predictively, they want to monitor and track users who post on forum websites. Well, with the plugin I am creating, I give the developers control of an essential AI feature back. No more forced opt-in tracking user content. My plugin will not send personally identifying info of users to the LLM. Developers, you are in charge of your website, moderate in real time, while keeping user data in-house, private by default. I force other AI moderation works to be aligned with community values, by providing an alternative solution.

In conclusion to my starter story, I hope to work with many like minded fellows, with their various plugins, to enhance mine. It was built with some long term expansions in mind. Although I am going to be forever busy with other projects in web and android. I am thankful to wp and wp plugin devs for letting me create a wp forum website, and allowing me to expand upon its features.

Thank you, Ali / coliasq / “Imre”
