WordPress Origin Story

I love to write code and learned HTML/CSS starting 2008. More than loving to write code, I’m one of those people who find that writing code improves my mental well-being. I also needed to make a living – outside the corporate world in an open-source, ethical manner – so, I learned to make simple, clean, standards-compliant, custom WordPress themes for clients and started freelancing in 2010.

Those themes are now called Classic Themes and I thought I was too old to ‘learn new WP tricks,’ so I retired from client work. I still love and need to code and finally have the time to learn JavaScript. What a joy!

Recently, I started volunteering for a non-profit who wants to own their own website (instead of renting it on GoDaddy) and still be able to update it without paying the high price of developers. So, now I’m back, learning the Gutenberg way, which has gotten more possible. And looking forward to contributing to the ecosystem.
