Bio

Hi. I’m Brent. I’m a self-taught full stack web developer that spends most of my time coding proprietary plugins in WordPress these days. I left the freelance scene in 2013 to pursue the dream of business ownership in a partnership with my wife. Our entire business presence rests on top of WordPress.

WordPress Origin Story

In the fall of 2006, I had graduated from college just one year earlier. Looking for a way to pay the bills, I began dappling in web development. I built website from the ground up entirely based in HTML Tables. It was beautiful. It was the Internet of the year 2000. I share this with a friend, who gifted me two books: one in CSS, the other in PHP.

In 2007, I discovered WordPress. After giving it run, I wasn’t impressed and decided to move on to other CMS offerings. I tried Joomla and built several sites in Joomla. Oi! I moved on to Expression Engines. I built several mores sites there. I looked at Drupal.

Then in probably 2009, I came back to WordPress. WordPress had changed, and so had I. I’ve been a pretty staunch advocate of WordPress since that time. I attended my first WordCamp in Phoenix, AZ in 2011.

In the fall of 2011, I built a website for my wife on the fly with WordPress in literally 2 hours. I handed the keys over to her and continued working on freelancing gigs of my own. A year and half later, I left all other freelancing gigs to join with my wife to build the business. This resulted from that website that took only 2 hours to build in WordPress.

In 2015, I launched a custom built LMS plugin to move our company’s training activities into online space. Since successfully going live with that plugin, I’ve been working to learn the right way to build plugins and keep moving forward with this same objective of business-ownership and building custom, proprietary plugins.
