BLUEGRASS CHARLEY CARNELISON
& HIS D-28 Martin Guitar
I was born & raised in the Ozark Mountains near Branson, Missouri, I don’t remember my family having much of anything except a bunch of love.
At the tender age of 15 I began searching for something but didn’t really know what I was looking for! I felt I had a void in my life, one night I was invited to a revival meeting in a little one room school house and that’s where I met Jesus for the first time, I was born again and I found what my heart was searching for…
A short time later the evangelist Charlie Vanhalton ask me if I would like to help him in revivals and I jumped at the chance….We would stretch a tent in the summer time and hold revivals in the one room school houses in winter time and that’s when I first started Singing & writing at the age of 16.
Then at the age of 18 I started learning to play guitar & started my recording career as well. I also at that time stated playing with a minister Jack Keithley & the Ozark Country Boys all the time gaining experience, I stayed with Jack & the Boys about 3 years….
While at a camp metting in Arkansas I met Brother Johnny Holt and we started a 15 minute program on KBHM radio out of Branson, Mo which was broadcast live every Sunday morning. It’s popularity had grown so much in 3 years time that we were up to a 2 hour taped program on Sunday morning.
I went out on my own in the 1980‘s …
I started a music center and formed a band called Bluegrass Charley Carnelison & the Ozark Mountain Sunnysiders ,,,,This was when I picked up the name Bluegrass Charley, my banjo player Archie “HossFly” Taylor referred to me as Bluegrass Charley and the name has stuck all of these years. I ran the shop in Reeds Spring, Mo. for about 10 years & continued playing Bluegrass Gospel music.
In the early 1990’s I started ministering in God’s word and holding revivals,,,,
And in about 2000 I formed my last group Bluegrass Charley Canelison & 20-20 Vision and we worked togather until about 2007 and now I’m workin’ as a solo act sometimes using the house band to back me, I got the group name 20-20 Vision from a song I wrote back in 1967 entitled 20-20 Vision. I first recorded it in 1972 & it quickly became my most requested song & still is today.20-20 Vision has put a lot of gas in my car and a lot of food on my table over the years, I just recently found out they are playing that old album yet today in Sweden and many other countries around the world!
