WordPress Origin Story

Around 2010 while working as a Linux engineer for a Dutch hosting company called Nines (bought by Sentia in 2015) we started hosting the first WordPress (version 3) websites. Some time later a small agency from Rotterdam called Level Level started hosting a business blog with Nines, the blog was z24.nl which was rebranded later to businessinsider.nl. The blog went live and died within minutes because the hosting set-up could not cope with the high amount of live traffic. The main problem was an NFS share between multiple servers which was used to house the entire WordPress directory instead of just the uploads directory. I was called in with a colleague to fix it. In 2014 as a freelancer I specialised in managed hosting off WordPress and Level Level was one of my customers and in 2017 I became the co-owner of Level Level.
