WordPress Origin Story

It all began with curiosity a simple desire to understand how websites are built without coding. As a student passionate about tech and design, I was drawn to WordPress but didn’t know where to start.

That changed through the Edutech Club. Hungry for knowledge, I started attending their monthly digital skills meet-ups under all conditions. When they announced a WordPress Bootcamp organized by Mukisa Godfrey, I showed up eager and ready. From that first session Introduction to WordPress through lessons on blogging and articles, something clicked.

I began using WordPress for demos and portfolios. Its intuitive dashboard, plugins, and themes quickly revealed something bigger: this wasn’t just a tool, it was an ecosystem. I built my first real website, an education and tech blog, and as my confidence grew, so did the challenges broken pages, low performance pushing me to research, troubleshoot, and go deeper.

Competing in the Uganda Website Project Competition was a turning point. It shifted my perspective from user to facilitator. Since then, I’ve helped others build their first websites, led workshops, and introduced students and SME owners to WordPress for the very first time watching that moment when someone says, “Wait, I can do this!”

For me, WordPress isn’t just a CMS. It’s a community and a launchpad bridging creativity and possibility. Every website is a story, a dream realized, or a problem solved. And I’m just getting started.
