WordPress Origin Story

Back in the Long Long Ago, I wanted to set up one of these “weblogs” I heard about on the domain I had owned since 1994. Obviously I went with Moveable Type, because it seemed easier, without all this weird “php this” and “php that” stuff.

But I kept running into trouble doing the things I wanted to do, and I saw a LOT of people using “WordePress” (as it was known back then). So I bit the bullet and installed that. It was a nightmare … for about two days. Then it clicked. Then I got it. And I’ve been using it ever since — no matter what stupid idea I have, I can find a way to make it happen.

I started doing Web work for my company, and learned to dazzle the boss with what I could make our sites do. I’m not a developer by any stretch, but I know enough to figure it out. And now I’m borderline indispensable, because it’s hard to find a writer/editor type who also can manage the website….
