WordPress Origin Story

From the year I’ve written this origin story (2015), I discovered WordPress when it used to be b2 (or something like that?). In the early 2000s, I was getting into the blogging scene but because I love to do digital graphic art and web design, I wanted to create my own blog using a powerful blogging system and with a design theme that I can really call my own. I started blogging with Blogger (before Google acquired it), then changed to Greymatter when I bought my very first domain and hosting. I tried b2, but at that time, PHP was a brand-new concept to me and I had a hard time learning how to customize themes using b2. I discovered Movable Type and I loved the system, but that was until they started charging users just for the software and had no choice but to find an alternative. I discovered WordPress around 2005 or 2006 (can’t remember anymore) when WordPress was still in its baby stages. With help from a friend, I learned a few nuts and bolts on how to create a blog using WordPress, but was still stuck with not knowing how to create my own custom themes.

I hope that joining the WordPress community would help me learn more about the more “technical” aspects of this wonderful, powerful system. I’m currently taking a WordPress Web Development blueprint program that would help me learn the basics of WordPress theming and I do plan on getting involved more with WordPress by doing volunteering (joining the theme team soon) and I also hope I can become a Happiness Engineer (or some other awesome role) in Automattic, specializing in WordPress.
