Third… Now, before I start, let me be serious for a moment.

This site is pure & 100% my opinion. I’m not claiming it’s right or wrong, just saying I’m here to speak my mind offer my opinions.

To entertain.

To use my voice.

Furthermore, all writers here are here to use their voices to express, praise and slam if necessary.

We are not intending to slander any person, group or corporation by offering our opinions.

We are not fans of slander, or slamming anyone’s hard work…whether we enjoy it or not.

Our primary intention here is to celebrate films and TV and music.

Not to harm the financial potential of a product.

Don’t take us too seriously.

It’s all good fun.

Talk hard.

Forth…
Now.
On with it.
Let us discuss why…

Why VoicesFILM.

Voices: FILM, TV & MUSIC

Or

VoicesFILM

for short.

“OK…it breaks down like this…”

“Pulp Fiction”
The urge to scream movie lines out to people started as soon as I got my first email account.

Back in the early 2000′s, things were very different on the virtual landscape then they are now. Not everyone had a computer, or an email, or a way to communicate via the virtual world. There was AOL. there were multiple internet search engines. Back then, I would lay down a suppressing fire of emails laden with film, TV & movie quotes.

Mind you this was to my family and my friends. Most emails would be ignored, some would write me back irritated.

For example:

Christmas, 2002 I would send out an email at 2AM to everyone in my contact list that simply stated:

“I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower, makes you talk a little lower about the things you could not show her and

it’s

been

A

long December…but there’s reason to believe maybe this year will be better than the last.”

Silence.

Or I would send out:

“The things you own, end up owning you.”

Or…

“Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself.

Choose your future.

Choose life.”

So…it was fun.

But not everyone enjoyed my tourettes like compulsion and emailing Aunt Linda lines from films about heroin addicts wasn’t a great idea.

I get on Facebook. Don’t remember when. There I moved on from email to status updates.

I was now irritating friends and family on Facebook instead of emailing them, getting blocked and ignored by a mess of them.

But I couldn’t stop.

I wouldn’t stop.

I will never stop.

What the hell else am I going to do with all these movie tv and music references…banging around in my head like pinballs?

Keep them to myself?

“GIVE ME A FUCKING ANSWER!!!!”

Christian Bale
Not happening.

Next, I create a Facebook page. Name it VoicesFILM.

Voice:
- a particular opinion or attitude, expressed.

“Now I have a machine gun. Ho-Ho-Ho.”

“Die Hard”
Dima joins me in my efforts. Now I had a platform. If you didn’t want to be bothered, you didn’t have to come by.

Things were moving well, hit 200+ followers and we were pumped.

Then it stopped.

Once our friends and family’s all liked the page, didn’t seem able to get a larger audience without paying for it.

I decide to branch out to Twitter, VoicesFILM has better luck there.

Branching out into the abyss that is Twitter wasn’t easy.

You post something on Facebook, people like it cause you know them.

But on Twitter, they’ll ignore you. No one follows you there unless you have something to say…

“If you want to lead people…you have to have somewhere to go.”

“Rumble Fish”
Getting followers isn’t difficult, getting good followers based on your brand, that’s difficult.

Stayed at it. Connected with the right people, one day Tom Cruise.com starts following me. Then Yoko Ono. Then The Beatles official Twitter account.

Next thing I know, I’ve got almost 1,000 followers (not much to some I know. Shut up.)

Now I could communicate with like-minded maniacs around the entire planet. This proved to be extremely important for VoicesFILM.

But…the 140 character limit thing…started to get on my nerves.

I also noticed that best film accounts on Twitter had a webpage base to them. This got me thinking:

“Maybe VoicesFILM needs it’s own website? It could be the virtual mountain I scream from…”

Seemed daunting. I knew computers…but not how to run a website.

“What do I know about the restaurant business? All I know is how to sit down and order a meal… I don’t know how to make a restaurant.”

“Goodfellas”
So then my personal life takes a turn.

There was mother glitch in The Matrix.

Summer, 2013.

I need a signal, a sign. Something to validate me. A direction, a path.

I began looking for the White Rabbit.

Not sure how, angels…

My mother…

Something leads me to GoDaddy.com.

I find myself looking at domain names and I next thing I know, I see that “VoicesFILM.com” is available.

It was a sign.i know them well now.

Launch the site Wes. Grab the domain now.

I bought it.

What now?

Build the mountain.

Enter WordPress.com.

I go and start up a blog, pay extra money to give it the “VoicesFILM.com” name:

“Gentleman… Welcome to Fight Club.”

I watch and review “World War Z” as my first post.

Great.

Then another. Then another.

Figure out how to broadcast my posts to Twitter and Tumblr and the VoicesFILM Facebook Page.

All was excellent…

until…

I decide to making some aesthetic changes to the look of the site. I wanted to change some fonts to start with

Ok. $100.00 bucks.

?

Wait. I already paid them once. I have to pay again?

Fine.

Then, I want to have my film posts display the films full one-sheet posters as the featured image.

No

What the hell man.

Each themes I choose either cut the image in half or did something I didn’t like.

I end up changing themes like 30 times, but in order to customize them, I now have to spend more money.

WHAT THE FUCK!!

So I buy a theme. Fine. It’s nice. But I can’t customize it. I write the author. He doesn’t know how to get it to display portrait sized posters. The author.

The author of the theme.

I digress.

I want to post a video with Alfonso Cuarón discussing the Dolby Atmos sound in “Gravity”.

No.

I would write the post,

Include the embed code for the video.

Post it.

Check it on the site,

The post is there.

The video was stripped out of it.

I want to punch someone in the throat.

Turns out I was posting from a site that wasn’t YouTube or Vimeo, and WordPress.com didn’t allow this.

But when I would visit other sites, they could post from anywhere.

Research began.

I soon learned the difference between a WordPress.com blog,

and a self hosted WordPress blog.

If you went with a self hosted site, there were no rules or limits. You were in charge.

You could post videos from anywhere.

You could pick a theme from a database of thousands upon thousands of themes…that were all free… all customizable to your hearts content.

You could install plug-ins, widgets…anything.

You should have some computer knowledge and be comfortable working with websites, but as long as you were willing to learn…it wasn’t difficult.

I was in. Get me the fuck out of here.

I was going to tackle this thing head on.

I went to BlueHost.com, I rented shared-server space.

Then I Installed WordPress.

I went and removed the “VoicesFILM.com” domain name from my WordPress.com site and brought it over to BlueHost.

I copied the 20 posts I had over to my new site…

And VoicesFILM.com was launched in October, 2013.

Then I went back to WordPress.com,

confident and cocky…

and in an act of defiance against no one, I deleted my old account and site.

Now, what I didn’t realize was that the great WordPress.com community would no longer be available to me.

That function didn’t carry over to self hosted sites, and by deleting my WordPress.com account…it severed my connection with the WordPress.com community.

“Fuck.”

Now I was no longer able to broadcast and be a part of the fantastic WordPress.com blogging community.

I would learn later that many did exactly what I did only to find out later that by deleting the account, there was no way to get their followers back. Luckily I only had 25 followers at that time, but some people had thousands of followers and lost them all.

It simply isn’t well documented anywhere that you will lose this functionality, because of the WordPress name…assumptions are made.

Hopefully I’m helping someone by posting my experience before they loose all their followers. Be warned.

Anyway, now I have a sister site over at WordPress.com called “Voices: FILM, TV & MUSIC | PART II”

But the master site, you’re on it now. Baby.

” I remember a time of chaos, ruined dreams…this wasted land.
But most of all, I remember the Road Warrior.
The man we called Max.”

“The Road Warrior”
“Hi.I’m Shelly’s new boyfriend and I’m out of my mind. “

“Sin City”
Hi. my name is Wes and I’m a film and TV addict.

Hi my name is Wes. I’m a Scorpio and I enjoy Cinema, Television, Music & High-Octane Gasoline.

Anyway.

Welcome.

“Ladies and Gentleman…
Boys and girls…
Dying times here…”

“Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome”
VoicesFILM exists because I needed an outlet. A mountain to yell from.

I’m passionate about what I love.

And I love film, television…visual storytelling.

If your thinking “oh…I like TV, “Friends” is the bestest!!”

Sweetheart… you’re in the wrong place.

No episodic weekly shows here.

Here we celebrate the Long-format storytellers. Those series that are actually one massive large story, broken into chapters that are revealed to us weekly.

Shows like HBO’s “Rome”…
Or “Game Of Thrones”…
Or Cinemax’s “Banshee”…

And Music.

Ohh the music.

I grew up along with my brother Derek on MTV when they used to play videos. Have a deep love and respect for the artform.

And film posters, one-sheets…UK Quads…

You’ll find them here, always in high quality.

And Trailers.

“OOOOOOOOOOO Henry Higgens!!”

“My Fair Lady”
I’ll always try to find the cleanest, highest quality trailers for you here.

Now I should also like to mention that I am building an army.

“Is it true what they say?”

“Is Mr. Durden building an army?”

“Fight Club”
You read right.

Recruiting soldiers.

“To what end? In Tyler We Trust.”

“Fight Club”
There’s a sign up page somewhere on this site. Still trying to work it out, but I reckon if you want to join up, be heard, be a VoicesFILM soldier as it were, Well then…

“I offer you this gift. These two droids. Both are hard working and will serve you well.”

“Return Of The Jedi”
We have a few commanders here to lead the charges, train the troops and they bring their own select blends of gasoline to make sure the fires burn bright.

“I’ll light the biggest fire the north has ever seen!!!”

“Game Of Thrones”
The first commander to join up and take charge was Dan Buffa, AKA…

Buffa.

Intelligent, passionate, gifted and a fellow high-octane gasoline addict. His contributions to the cause are invaluable.

He writes for a few sites, Film Addict & his own site Dose Of Buffa and written everything from film reviews, TV series spotlights and interviews.

Finally, there’s my brother Derek.
Derek’s taste is eclectic like my own…but what he loves, he loves fiercely. A sports fanatic unlike any you’ve met before. His introduction to the troops will be a comprehensive look at his 10 favorite baseball films of all time…and why they are exceptional. Keep an eye out. What of it I have read so far is supernuts. And in true VoicesFILM fashion, I guarantee you can’t guess his pix.

And there’s one more.
Call sign: Oldboy
Prepare.

His specialty is simply film. He’s a fucking genius.

Personally, Puts me to shame…as I believe all the authors here do.

Honestly.

But Oldboy, he’s Lancelot.

His first piece is forthcoming, a review of a film that jacked him up that he felt compelled to share:

“The Raid 2: Redemption”

Again, Prepare.

We 5…We make up the lieutenants circle here.
The platoon leaders.
The Apones.

“SECURE THAT SHIT HUDSON!!!”

“Aliens”
The commanding officers. The Gunnery Sargent Hartman’s.

“Holy Jesus. What is that. What the fuck is that? WHAT IS THAT PRIVATE PILE?”

“Sir a jelly donut sir!!”

“A jelly donut!!”

“Full Metal Jacket”
“When I Close My Hand, It Makes A Fist.”

“Gangs Of New York”
Commanding an elite division of soldiers to take on the established & corrupt Hollywood order.

“THIRTEEN!!!!

THIRTEEN!!!!

THIRTEEN!!!

HBO “Rome”
In all honesty, we thank you for stopping by,
We hope we entertain you,
we hope you enjoy your time here.

We hope you enlist and return frequently.

I can’t promise you that we will be like the other sites out there.

You won’t find the same headlines from the trades that you’ll find on 30 other film and tv sites.

You won’t necessarily find the latest movie reviews, Or updates on the newest episode of your favorite television series,

an article that exists simply to slam someone else’s efforts.

I can’t promise you will find those things here…

What can I promise you?

“Gas! Fuel! Gasoline! Thousands of gallons of it! As much as you want!”

“Where? Where?”

“Miles from here! Pumping it, they are! Refining! A huge tanker full.”

“Crap!”

“No, it’s true! lt’s not self-service, no. lt’s too hard for me, but a man of your ingenuity…”
